Execution Risk

The risk carried by whoever is exposed when a result fails to materialize for reasons outside the software itself: the customer's team did not follow through, the market moved, the process around the product broke. It is distinct from product risk, which is the chance the software fails to do its job. A per-seat metric leaves execution risk entirely with the buyer, who pays for access whether or not anything comes of it. A metric counting the customer's realized result moves execution risk onto the vendor, who goes unpaid when the result does not land. Positions between the two split it.
